The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the killing of three suspected kidnappers during a clearance operation in Kokolo Forest, Magama Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the operation, carried out by the Special Task Team in collaboration with local vigilantes, also led to the rescue of a victim and the recovery of arms.
“On September 12, 2025, at about 6:30 a.m., based on credible intelligence, the Special Task Team of the Command, in synergy with vigilante members, launched a clearance operation within Kokolo Forest via Kawo-Auna village in Nasko, Magama LGA,” Abiodun said.
He explained that the team encountered the suspected kidnappers and engaged them in a gun battle.
“Three of the hoodlums were neutralised, while others escaped into the forest with gunshot injuries. One victim was successfully rescued,” he stated.
According to him, security operatives recovered two AK-47 rifles and 49 rounds of live ammunition during the operation.
Abiodun urged residents of nearby communities to report anyone seen with suspicious injuries.
“We are appealing to members of the public, especially those in neighbouring villages, to promptly alert the Police or other security agencies if they notice anyone with gunshot wounds,” he advised.
The spokesman assured that investigations were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.
The development comes as similar operations were recently recorded in Ogun and Delta states.
In Ogun, two suspected kidnappers were killed in a gun battle around Owode-Egba, while three abducted victims were rescued from Ajebo community.
In Delta, police operatives neutralised two suspected kidnappers in the Owa Ekei Boji-Boji Owa axis of Ika North-East Local Government Area.
