Serie A: 10-man Atalanta hold Juventus to 1-1 draw

Atalanta extended their unbeaten Serie A run to five matches for the first time since 2007 after battling to a 1-1 draw at Juventus, where the hosts’ struggles against La Dea on home turf continued.

The Bianconeri have now failed to beat the Bergamo side in Turin since 2018, further denting their pursuit of the league leaders.

Juventus almost made a dream start when Pierre Kalulu’s towering second-minute header rattled the post, setting the tone for a dominant opening spell.

Andrea Cambiaso and Teun Koopmeiners pulled the strings in midfield, with Khephren Thuram nearly breaking the deadlock as his deflected strike whistled agonisingly past the upright.

Atalanta, under constant pressure early on, relied on the defensive resilience of captain Berat Djimsiti and 17-year-old Honest Ahanor to keep their opponents at bay.

Their rare forward ventures produced little, aside from a Djimsiti header that sailed just over from a corner.

Yet, against the run of play, Kamaldeen Sulemana silenced the Allianz Stadium crowd in first-half stoppage time.

The Ghanaian winger slalomed through two Juve challenges before unleashing a superb left-footed finish to give the visitors a shock lead.

The second half offered a more balanced affair. Nikola Krstovic squandered a glorious one-on-one chance to double Atalanta’s advantage, while Juve’s Lois Openda grew increasingly dangerous with his movement and creativity.

Mario Pašalić’s looping header nearly added to Juve’s misery, and Raoul Bellanova wasted a gilt-edged chance following Charles De Ketelaere’s pinpoint delivery.

Just as Atalanta looked in control, disaster struck. A costly slip from Odilon Kossounou gifted substitute Juan Cabal the chance to poke home Juve’s equaliser only two minutes after his introduction.

Momentum shifted again when Marten de Roon received his marching orders, leaving Atalanta clinging on under late Juve pressure.

Weston McKennie had the game’s clearest opening in the dying stages, but the American fluffed his lines from close range, ensuring the spoils were shared.

The result means Atalanta are now unbeaten in five consecutive league meetings with Juventus (W1, D4) and have lost only once in their last 12 Serie A clashes against the Turin giants (W3, D8).
