FG announces theme, programmes for 65th Independence Day

The Federal Government has unveiled the official theme and activities for the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary, scheduled for October 1, 2025.

The theme, “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation,” was disclosed on Wednesday by the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Segun Imohiosen.

According to him, the theme underscores the importance of collective responsibility in building a stronger and more united country.

“This year’s theme is designed to remind all Nigerians that the task of nation-building requires unity, collaboration, and patriotism,” Imohiosen said in a statement shared on X.

The Federal Government also outlined activities leading to the celebration. Imohiosen explained that the programme will kick off with a Juma’at prayer at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 26, followed by an inter-denominational church service on Sunday, September 28, at 10 a.m. A world press conference is also scheduled for Monday, September 29, at 10 a.m.

He added: “These events are carefully planned to align with the anniversary theme, ensuring the message resonates across all sectors of our national life.”

Independence Day, marked annually on October 1, commemorates Nigeria’s freedom from British colonial rule in 1960.
