The Corporate Affairs Commission has announced plans to introduce an Artificial Intelligence system to resolve a backlog of over 7,000 pending company registration applications.
Registrar-General of the Commission, Hussaini Magaji, disclosed this at a stakeholders’ engagement in Kano on Monday.
He explained that the innovation is part of a broader overhaul of the Company Registration Portal, which was relaunched in June 2025.
According to Magaji, the AI upgrade will significantly reduce delays in processing applications, improve accuracy, and enhance customer service.
“We are introducing an AI-powered agent to fast-track compliance, registry, and customer service tasks with greater efficiency. This system is capable of handling thousands of applications daily and will help us tackle the 7,000-application backlog,” he said.
The Registrar-General also highlighted new features of the CRP, including automatic name approvals and real-time alternatives when preferred names are unavailable.
“Name reservation is now as simple as opening an email account. With AI, the system can instantly suggest and approve names, making registration seamless,” he noted.
Magaji admitted that applicants had faced delays since the portal’s launch due to the high number of submissions. He explained that the Commission receives over 3,000 emails daily, a challenge the AI system is being designed to manage.
“This technology can read 3,000 emails within a minute, identify duplicate requests, understand the content, and redirect them to the right departments for immediate attention,” he said.
