NEMA receives 148 Nigerians evacuated from Sudan

The Kano Operations Office of the National Emergency Management Agency has received 148 Nigerians evacuated from conflict-hit Sudan, as part of ongoing efforts to rescue stranded citizens abroad.

In a statement released on Saturday, NEMA disclosed that the returnees touched down at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport on Friday at about 2:30 p.m. aboard a chartered Tarco Aviation aircraft.

The breakdown of the passengers shows 25 adult men, 27 adult women, 39 boys, and 57 girls.

Upon arrival, the evacuees were taken to Chila Hotel for profiling and documentation by relevant agencies.

“The returnees were not enrolled in any reintegration programme and were discharged and given transport fare by providing them with ATM cards for withdrawals shortly after the completion of documentation and profiling,” NEMA stated.

The agency described the operation as “well-coordinated and successfully executed.”

The evacuation is the latest in a series of repatriation efforts since the outbreak of war in Sudan, which has forced millions from their homes and crippled much of the nation’s infrastructure.

NEMA reaffirmed that, in collaboration with the Federal Government and international partners, it continues to monitor the crisis in Sudan while extending support to affected Nigerians.
