NEMA receives 131 stranded Nigerians from Niger Republic

The National Emergency Management Agency has received 131 Nigerians who voluntarily returned from Agadez, Niger Republic, under the Assisted Voluntary Return Programme facilitated by the International Organization for Migration in collaboration with the Federal Government.

The returnees arrived at the Aminu Kano International Airport in the early hours of Thursday, October 30, 2025, at about 5:17 a.m.

In a statement posted on Saturday, NEMA said the returnees were received by its officials alongside representatives of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, the Nigerian Immigration Service, and other partner agencies.

“The returnees arrived safely and were immediately attended to by our response team and partner agencies,” the agency stated.

The NIS carried out biometric registration and documentation to ensure proper identification and support for reintegration.

According to NEMA, the group consisted of 118 adult males, four adult females, two male children, and seven female children.

The returnees were later transported to the Nigeria Immigration Service Training School in Kano for further profiling and support services.

NEMA said the Federal Government remained committed to ensuring the welfare and dignity of citizens returning from abroad.

“They were provided with meals, drinking water, medical screening, ambulance services and logistical support, in line with the government’s commitment to a humane and organized return process,” the agency added.

The agency noted that the exercise demonstrated ongoing coordination between NEMA, IOM, NCFRMI and other stakeholders to support safe migration and reintegration of Nigerian citizens.

Earlier in the week, NEMA had also confirmed the arrival of 153 Nigerian returnees from Chad under a similar programme.
