The Niger State Police Command has apprehended a man accused of attempting robbery while impersonating a soldier in Minna.
According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the incident occurred on September 16 at around 4:20 p.m. when a police surveillance team from Chanchaga Division, working alongside state traffic officials at City Gate, intercepted the suspect.
The man, identified as Ibrahim Abdullahi from Kubwa, Abuja, allegedly posed as a soldier and stopped a motorcycle carrying two passengers along the Tutungo,-Farindoki Road. He reportedly told the victims he was escorting them to the Army barracks in Minna, but instead diverted the motorcycle toward City Gate.
“When the victims realized his intentions and raised the alarm, a crowd gathered as he tried to escape with the motorcycle. He was immediately restrained and handed over to the police,” Abiodun explained.
Ibrahim Abdullahi has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for further investigations.
