INEC disowns fake recruitment advert, warns Nigerians against scam

The Independent National Electoral Commission has cautioned Nigerians to disregard a fraudulent recruitment notice currently circulating on social media.

The commission, in a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, described the advert as fake and misleading.

The post falsely claimed that INEC was recruiting for various positions and directed unsuspecting applicants to a sham website, inecrecruitment.com.com.

INEC clarified that it is not conducting any employment exercise at the moment.

“Our attention has been drawn to a fake advertorial currently circulating on social media, giving the impression that the Independent National Electoral Commission is recruiting for various positions,” the commission stated.

“The impostor behind this illicit recruitment exercise also asked would-be respondents to log on to an equally fake portal – inecrecruitment.com – to complete their applications. But INEC does not have any such portal.”

The commission urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to fraudsters.

“The commission hereby calls on the public to disregard this fraudulent call for applications. The commission IS NOT recruiting. Do not fall victim to the antics of criminal elements,” it added.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to providing credible electoral services and said any genuine recruitment exercise would be formally announced through its official website and verified social media channels.
