India Air crash survivor too traumatized for UK return – Family

The only survivor of June’s Air India crash is unlikely to return to the United Kingdom, as his family says he has been left too terrified to fly again.

Leicester businessman, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40, has been undergoing counselling in India after narrowly escaping the accident that claimed 260 lives, including that of his younger brother, Ajay, 35.

Ramesh was seated in 11A when the aircraft went down, sustaining facial cuts and chest injuries but managing to survive.

His wife, Hiral, and their four-year-old son initially travelled to India to support him but have since returned to Britain.

“He is still receiving treatment,” Hiral confirmed, while Ramesh’s brother-in-law told Daily Mail UK: “I don’t think he will come back here, he is far too frightened of boarding a plane again.”

Meanwhile, families of other British victims have criticised both Indian authorities and the UK Foreign Office for what they describe as “serious communication failures,” citing instances where victims’ remains were either misplaced or mixed up.

In a strongly worded letter to Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, they wrote, “Silence and a severe lack of communication force us to bring this to your attention. We feel abandoned.”

The grieving relatives have now filed legal proceedings, demanding access to Air India’s pilot and aircraft maintenance records.
