Anambra First Lady, Senator Ekwunife trade words over allegations, oath challenge

The wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has demanded an apology from Senator Uche Ekwunife, the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, over what she described as “baseless and malicious claims” against her family.

In a statement released on Saturday, Soludo said she would not be dragged into “falsehoods,” warning that legal action would follow if the senator failed to withdraw her remarks within 72 hours.

“Let me state three verifiable truths. First, I have never worked for anyone in my life—I have always been a professional and an entrepreneur.

“Second, I never met the late Governor Mbadinuju in my life. And third, in my 55 years on earth, I have only known one man—Chukwuma Soludo,” the governor’s wife said.

She further challenged Ekwunife to a public oath of fidelity and chastity, as well as a DNA test to clear the air on the allegations.

“Since she claims to be a Catholic convert, I invite her to join me in swearing an oath before the Blessed Sacrament at any Cathedral. I will also take the oath with my children to affirm that I have known only one man—my husband. Additionally, I propose DNA tests for both our families, to be conducted in three reputable hospitals in London at my expense,” Soludo stated.

The dispute stems from a viral video where Ekwunife linked Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife to the administration of former Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju (1999–2003), while also responding to questions raised about her own academic qualifications.

In response to Soludo’s statement, Ekwunife dismissed the First Lady’s demands, saying her comments had been misinterpreted.

“Mrs. Soludo does not owe me any explanation regarding her family life. If my statement caused her discomfort, she owes her husband an explanation, not me,” Ekwunife said.

She added that she would not be drawn into personal matters: “Challenging me to oaths or DNA tests is irrelevant—I am not part of her family. My focus remains on rescuing Anambra from misrule and contributing positively to the state’s future.”

The clash has further heightened political tensions ahead of the November 8 governorship election in Anambra, where personal integrity and credentials have become central themes in the campaign.
