A massive manhunt is underway after Charlie Kirk, a close political ally of United States President, Donald Trump, was gunned down in Utah in what Governor Spencer Cox has described as a “political assassination.”
Kirk, 31, was fatally shot in the neck on Wednesday afternoon while addressing an outdoor gathering at Utah Valley University.
Disturbing footage captured the moment the conservative activist staggered and bled heavily after being struck.
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that an individual had initially been taken into custody but was later released.
“The subject in custody has been released after an interrogation by law enforcement. Our investigation continues and we will continue to release information in interest of transparency,” Patel announced on social media.
President Trump mourned the loss of his ally, confirming the news of Kirk’s death.
“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He added, “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
As of now, authorities are still searching for the shooter.
