Ciro Immobile is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining a thigh injury during his Bologna debut, the Serie A outfit confirmed on Monday.

The 35-year-old striker limped off just 30 minutes into Bologna’s first league game of the season, a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Roma.

In an official statement, the club revealed that the former Italy international suffered damage to his right thigh and will be unavailable for “around eight weeks.”

Immobile only joined Vincenzo Italiano’s side in July after leaving Turkish club Besiktas.

Bologna, who lifted the Italian Cup last season, are scheduled to host Como this Saturday.

Immobile ranks eighth on Serie A’s all-time scorers list with 201 goals, just four shy of legendary playmaker Roberto Baggio.

He remains Lazio’s greatest marksman, holding the club record with 207 goals across all competitions.

The veteran forward also led the line for Italy’s Euro 2020-winning side, cementing his place as one of the most prolific strikers of his generation.
