Commuters on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line will enjoy faster journeys and more frequent services from Monday, August 11, 2025, as the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority announces a major schedule upgrade.
The authority revealed that trains will now operate every 10 minutes, reducing the travel time between Marina and Mile 2 to just 10 minutes — an eight-minute improvement from the current duration.
According to LAMATA, the shorter headway will save passengers about 44 per cent in journey time while enhancing overall commuting comfort. The change will see weekday and Saturday trips increase from 72 to 90, while Sunday services will remain at 22 trips.
Managing Director of LAMATA, Abimbola Akinajo, credited the improvement to new train sets purchased by the Lagos State Government with assistance from the Federal Government.
“We are excited to facilitate the increase in the number of trips since our commitment is to have a world-class, sustainable transport system that satisfies stakeholders and drives the growth of Lagos,” Akinajo said.
She noted that the additional trips and rolling stock are a sign of things to come when the Blue Line is fully extended to Okokomaiko, a milestone targeted for the last quarter of 2026.
LAMATA disclosed that since the Blue Line began passenger operations on September 4, 2023, it has moved over five million passengers.
The second phase of the project is expected to wrap up by the end of 2026, with commercial operations for the extended service set to begin in early 2027.
