The West African Examinations Council Nigeria, has refuted a viral social media post alleging the cancellation of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination , describing it as baseless and misleading.
The false claim, which circulated widely on Saturday, July 19, alleged that WAEC, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, had annulled the entire examination due to widespread malpractice, coordinated question paper leaks, and digital dissemination of exam materials.
However, in an official statement released on Sunday, July 20, 2025, and signed by the Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, the Council strongly debunked the report, clarifying that the examination was neither cancelled nor compromised.
“The 2025 WASSCE has not been cancelled,” Adesina stated firmly. “The report in circulation is false, and clearly the work of mischief-makers determined to undermine the Council’s credibility and incite unnecessary panic among candidates and their families.”
Adesina urged the public to disregard the fabricated statement and assured candidates that the marking of scripts had been completed.
“We are currently finalising preparations for the release of results, which will be announced on or before Thursday, August 4, 2025,” the statement added.
WAEC further reminded stakeholders and the general public that all authentic updates from the Council are disseminated through its verified social media handles, accredited national media platforms, and the Public Affairs Department.
“We encourage everyone to rely solely on official communication channels for accurate information,” the Council emphasized.
The examination body reiterated its commitment to transparency and maintaining the integrity of its processes despite attempts by faceless individuals to cause confusion.
