Flying Eagles’ Ariehi joins Norwegian side Mjøndalen on loan

Flying Eagles forward, Kparobo Ariehi, has completed a loan switch to Norwegian second-tier side Mjøndalen, where he will remain until 2025.

The 18-year-old attacker joins from top-flight club Lillestrøm, just months after signing with them from Nigeria’s Beyond Limits Academy in January.

Confirming the move, Lillestrøm’s sporting director Simon Mesfin said, “We have decided that it is right to loan KP to Mjøndalen. This is something we have considered for a while. The fact that it is happening now coincides with Mjøndalen having sold its best striker to the Eliteserien, and that we consider the need for more playing time in the OBOS league to be important.”

Mesfin emphasized that consistent minutes at a competitive level are crucial for the teenager’s development and administrative eligibility.

“More playing time at the highest possible level is important for KP’s further development, while it is also important in view of the annual extension of his work permit. It is also worth noting that this is important for his potential participation in the U20 World Cup to be held in September/October this year,” he explained.

He further stated that the move serves both immediate and future goals for the forward, “We believe this loan will be good for ‘KP’. Both short-term – considering that he will get a lot of match training before he is potentially selected for the U20 World Cup – but also important for his long-term development, so that he will have the opportunity to take further steps towards 2026,” Mesfin added.

Ariehi featured in the Flying Eagles’ campaign at the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Egypt, starting four of six games and registering one goal.
