Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has renamed The Polytechnic, Ibadan after the late Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, a former governor of the old Oyo State and one of Nigeria’s most respected mathematicians.

Makinde made the announcement during the state commendation service held in honour of Dr. Olunloyo, who passed away on April 6, 2025, just days before his 90th birthday.

According to the governor, the decision to rename the institution as The Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan was to honour his contributions to education and leadership in the state being the first rector of the institution.

During an executive session convened to honour the late statesman, Governor Makinde had also unveiled plans to digitise Dr. Olunloyo’s private library as a way to preserve his intellectual legacy for future generations.
