Russia head coach, Valery Karpin, has acknowledged the challenge his team faces as they prepare to take on Nigeria in an international friendly.
The Russians have shown strong form in recent matches, including a commanding 5-0 win over Zambia in March.
However, they now face a sterner test in the Super Eagles, who are currently enjoying an unbeaten run in their last six outings.
Despite the tough opposition, Karpin insisted that his side will stick to their game plan and maintain the same approach they’ve used in previous matches.
“It does not matter who we play – Nigeria or Serbia – we want to do the things that we practice in training,” Karpin stated in the build-up to the clash.
“It is more difficult to press against Serbia or Cameroon than, for example, Grenada or Brunei. But the requirements are always the same.”
The coach also reflected on how his role has evolved since stepping away from club duties, allowing him to devote more time to national team responsibilities.
“Personally, my preparation for the national team matches changed after I was no longer at the club’s disposal,” he explained.
“I was able to independently review the candidates, attend matches, and study the Nigerian national team’s recent games under their new coach.”
Russian midfielder Daniil Glebov also expressed respect for the Nigerian side, describing them as a solid and formidable opponent.
“They are a good team,” Glebov said, anticipating a tough duel with the West African giants.
