Gospel artiste Big Bolaji laid to rest in Ibadan

Renowned Nigerian gospel singer, Bolaji Olanrewaju, widely known by his stage name Big Bolaji, was laid to rest in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday, May 29, 2025.

The 50-year-old artiste passed away on April 19 after a brief illness.

According to The PUNCH, the funeral began with a lying-in-state and service held at the Hall of Grace in Jogor Centre, Ibadan.

The event brought together loved ones, members of the gospel music community, and friends who came to honour the legacy of the late singer.

Among those who paid their respects were prominent gospel artistes including Mike Abdul, Tosin Bee, Bidemi Olaoba, Yetunde Are, and popular comedian Woli Agba.

They joined the grieving family to celebrate Bolaji’s life and contributions to gospel music in Nigeria.

“Big Bolaji was more than a singer. He was a vessel that carried God’s word through music,” said gospel singer Mike Abdul during the service. “His passion, humility, and spiritual energy will be deeply missed.”

A touching tribute video documenting the singer’s decades-long music career was played, eliciting both tears and applause from attendees.

Following the service, a procession accompanied the flower-adorned casket to All Souls Private Cemetery in Ido, Ibadan, where he was buried. His wife, siblings, and other family members stood in solemn reflection as he was committed to the earth.

“Bolaji lived for God and for people,” said family friend and colleague Bidemi Olaoba. “He inspired many of us and left a mark we won’t forget.”

Big Bolaji was known for his vibrant stage presence and dedication to youth-focused gospel outreach. Until his passing, he remained a beloved figure in the Christian music scene.
