The President of Women Arise For Change Initiative and Centre for Change, Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin said that there is no need for the celebration of the country’s independence.
The activist opined that the moment calls for sober reflection for the nation.
In an interview with the Independent, she stressed that leaders should look into the establishment of the reconciliation and healing commission with the view to helping the nation.
She added that there should be deliberate efforts on the part of the government to channel the energy of youth towards productive endeavours in every ward and polling unit as that is the closest political delineation of the people.
According to her, “Absolutely no cause for celebration. In reality, it is a moment of sober reflection for the nation.”
When asked what could be done to unite the nation, she replied, “To rectify this problem, I think our leaders should look into the establishment of a reconciliation and healing commission. This will greatly help our nation as a whole. “
