A Lagos Magistrates’ Court sitting in Oshodi has ordered the remand of 34 individuals for unlawfully occupying road medians and setbacks along the Ojo-Alaba Road corridor.
The Lagos Waste Management Authority Managing Director, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed in a statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
According to Gbadegesin, the suspects — comprising 32 men and two women — were apprehended last Saturday during a coordinated enforcement operation led by the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps, popularly known as KAI.
“They were arrested for offences including residing, trading, and defecating on the median and setbacks, actions which contravene Lagos sanitation and environmental laws,” he stated.
Gbadegesin further revealed that the suspects were arraigned before the Magistrates’ Court in Bolade, Oshodi, and have been remanded in custody until July 22, 2025.
He emphasized the need for residents to adhere to environmental regulations to maintain cleanliness and safety in public spaces.
“This action is part of our broader effort to rid Lagos of unsightly and unhygienic practices that compromise public health and infrastructure,” he said.
The operation was carried out with support from the Operation MESA team attached to the NNS Beecroft naval base in Apapa.
LAWMA continues to warn against the misuse of public infrastructure, reiterating that such acts will be met with the full force of the law.
