Zamfara gov appoints Abdulkadir Bello as new Emir of Gusau

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has officially approved the appointment of Abdulkadir Bello as the new Emir of Gusau, following the demise of his father, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, on July 25, 2025.

Abdulkadir Bello becomes the 16th Emir of the Gusau Emirate Council. His selection was based on the recommendation of the traditional kingmakers in accordance with the customs and legal provisions guiding the emirate.

Announcing the appointment on Tuesday, the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Nakwada, emphasized that the process followed due traditional protocols and the input of the Gusau Emirate Council.

Before his elevation to the throne, Abdulkadir Bello held the traditional title of Bunun Gusau. As the eldest son of the late monarch, he was widely considered the rightful heir.

“I urge the new Emir to be a symbol of peace, progress, and unity within the emirate and to promote harmonious living among all residents,” Lawal said.

The governor expressed confidence in the emir’s ability to provide wise and fair leadership and pledged the state government’s continued support for traditional institutions.

The Emirate Council and residents of Gusau have expressed optimism that the new emir will build on the achievements of his predecessors and work toward the continued development of the emirate.
