A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has called for emergency meetings of the party’s Board of Trustees and National Executive Committee following the controversial expulsion of key members at the weekend.
The notice, issued on Monday by factional National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, announced that both meetings will hold on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the NEC Hall of the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
The announcement was shared on X by Lere Olayinka, media aide to the FCT Minister.
According to the schedule, the BoT meeting is fixed for 11:00 a.m., while the NEC meeting will follow at 2:00 p.m.
“Attendance is very important as crucial matters will be discussed and addressed,” the notice stated, indicating that the faction is preparing a response to the party’s recent disciplinary actions.
The emergency meetings come days after the PDP’s National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, where the party expelled Wike, Anyanwu, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, former National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade, Imo PDP Chairman Austin Nwachukwu, and several others for alleged anti-party activities.
The motion for their expulsion was moved by former Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Bode George, and seconded by Bauchi State PDP Chairman, Samaila Buga. Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, subsequently put the matter to a voice vote, which was overwhelmingly adopted by delegates.
Party insiders say the latest move by the Wike-backed faction signals a brewing confrontation within the PDP, as expelled members seek to challenge the decisions taken in Ibadan.
A source close to the faction said, “This meeting is to address the unconstitutional actions taken at the convention. The party cannot be hijacked by a few individuals.”
The PDP leadership has yet to respond to the faction’s latest move.
