The People’s Democratic Party Eminent Stakeholders and Concerned Leaders have officially reaffirmed Senator Sam Anyanwu as the duly elected and substantive National Secretary of the party.

This decision was reached during a closed-door meeting held in Abuja on Monday, attended by party leaders from various states across the federation.

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, who read the communique, stated that Anyanwu’s reaffirmation aligns with both the party’s constitution and the Supreme Court’s judgment regarding the position.

“We, therefore, unequivocally reaffirm Sen. Sam Anyanwu as the duly elected and substantive National Secretary of our great party,” Wike declared.

The meeting was convened to address the lingering crisis within the party and reinforce internal democracy, equity, and justice. Wike explained that the current challenges stem from some members’ refusal to adhere to the party’s constitution, particularly Sections 36(1)(a)(b)(c), 47(3)(5), and 48(1)(I). He warned that without urgent action, the party risks self-destruction due to divisive tendencies that emerged before the 2023 elections.

The stakeholders emphasized that only Anyanwu, as National Secretary, has the constitutional authority to issue meeting notices for party organs. “In line with the provisions of our party constitution, only the National Secretary, Anyanwu, can issue notices of meeting of the National Convention, NEC, National Caucus and the NWC,” Wike stated. They declared all other notices and related actions, including correspondence with INEC, as null and void.

Looking ahead to 2027, the stakeholders resolved that the party’s presidential candidate should be zoned to the South. “This is in the spirit of fairness, inclusion, federal character principles and respect for our party constitution,” Wike said, noting this would follow the eight-year tenure of northern president Muhammadu Buhari.

The meeting was attended by prominent PDP figures including former Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), along with former Senate Minority Leader Philip Aduda, current National Secretary Anyanwu, and various former lawmakers and party executives.

The stakeholders urged members to support the National Reconciliation Committee led by former Senate President Bukola Saraki and maintain commitment to the party’s constitutional processes as they work to stabilize the opposition party.
