The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is set to embark on another round of project commissioning and flag-offs, following the conclusion of a 16-day commissioning exercise that ended on July 3, 2025.
According to a statement issued by Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Wike will today, Tuesday, August 19, commission the fully rehabilitated Phase 2 Water Treatment Plant at the Lower Usuma Dam, located in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council.
The exercise will continue tomorrow with the flag-off of the construction and expansion of water supply to FCT satellite towns, beginning with Lot 1 in Bwari Township, also in Bwari Area Council. On Thursday, the Minister will proceed to flag off Lot 2, covering Karu town and surrounding areas in the Abuja Municipal Area Council.
It will be recalled that during the commissioning of the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project on June 16, 2025, Wike disclosed that the FCT Administration had entered into a new agreement during President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 visit to China.
The agreement, he said, was aimed at extending water supply to several satellite communities, including Bwari, Kubwa, and Karu. At the time, he assured that procurement processes for the project extensions were nearing completion, with a commitment to ensuring timely delivery.
