Edo State Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, has emphasized his administration’s commitment to investing in education, citing its crucial role in the state’s socio-economic and intellectual development.

The governor made these remarks during the All Progressives Congress campaign tour across several wards in Edo Central Senatorial District, including Ward 4, 7, 8, Uzea Kingdom, and Ebele Kingdom, ahead of next Saturday’s senatorial by-election.

Speaking in Igueben, Edo Central Senatorial District, Governor Okpebholo highlighted the revival of the College of Education in the area as a key development project.

He declared, “We will continue to march forward. We are reviving the College of Education, Igueben. We have rolled out a ₦1 billion bursary scheme to cater for Edo indigenes in tertiary institutions.”

The governor assured residents that all higher institutions in the state would receive the necessary attention under his administration.

During the campaign, Governor Okpebholo also welcomed decampees from other political parties, including leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party. Among them was the former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Friday Itula, who led a group of defectors in Okpoju Ward 4.

Meanwhile, Edo State Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, intensified campaigns for the Ovia Federal Constituency House of Representatives by-election, describing it as a litmus test for the APC in the state. Speaking at the party’s flag-off campaign in Ovia South West, Idahosa urged party members to mobilize support to ensure victory.

He stated that Governor Okpebholo had already embarked on infrastructural projects to improve livelihoods in the federal constituency and called on residents to reciprocate by voting for the APC.

“Saturday’s by-election is to show our preparedness for the 2027 general elections. I want it to be a 100 percent win for the APC. We are not taking this election for granted. When you get home, tell your family and neighbours that APC is one way, vote for Omosede Igbinedion, the only female candidate for the National Assembly from Edo state,” Idahosa said.

The APC candidate for the by-election, Omosede Igbinedion, praised the deputy governor as a grassroots politician who has championed development in the constituency. She appealed for continued support for the APC to ensure more infrastructural projects.
