The National Youth Service Corps has dismissed social media reports claiming corps member Ushie Rita Uguamaye (LA/24B/8325) was denied her Certificate of National Service due to critical comments about the government.
In an official statement, the scheme described these allegations as “entirely unfounded and false in their entirety,” clarifying that her certificate was withheld for “valid disciplinary reasons.”
According to NYSC management, Ushie was among 131 corps members sanctioned for various infractions. Her specific penalty—a two-month service extension—resulted from failing to attend the April 2025 biometric clearance exercise, a violation of NYSC bye-laws.
“This extension is a standard procedure and not unique to her case. The principle of equal treatment was applied as it is in all similar situations,” the statement emphasized.
The scheme urged the public to avoid politicizing the matter, noting that service extensions for non-compliance have been standard practice throughout NYSC’s history. Reaffirming its commitment to fairness, the statement quoted the corps’ motto: “Nigeria is ours; Nigeria we serve.”
NYSC maintained that all disciplinary actions align with constitutional provisions, concluding: “The NYSC remains committed to discharging its mandate in line with the dictates of the constitution.”
