W’Cup qualifiers: South Africa’s Appollis eyes thrilling clash with Super Eagles

Oswin Appollis has expressed his eagerness ahead of South Africa’s clash with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Hugo Broos’ charges are brimming with confidence as they prepare for Tuesday’s encounter at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, coming off the back of a convincing 3-0 win over Lesotho last Friday.

For Nigeria, the objective is clear, a third victory in the qualifiers and a chance to cut down Bafana Bafana’s lead at the top of the group.

Despite the threat posed by Eric Chelle’s men, who parade some of Africa’s top talents, the hosts believe they can rise to the challenge.

Focused on the Battle Ahead

Appollis acknowledged the strength of the Super Eagles but insisted his side is ready to compete.

“It’s going to be an exciting game but a difficult one. Nigeria have so much quality, but we’re ready for the fight,” Appollis told Sowetan.

Dreaming of the World Cup

Bafana Bafana have not featured at the FIFA World Cup since hosting the tournament in 2010, but qualification is now within touching distance.

For Appollis, being part of a squad on the brink of making history is a special feeling.

“It [being part of Bafana squad who’re on the brink of World Cup qualification] is amazing, seeing that we last played in the World Cup in 2010,” Appollis added.

“We’re very close to qualifying for the World Cup, but we have to put in the work as we still have three games left.

“We’re in a good position to go to the World Cup, but all the remaining games won’t be easy. However, with the squad that we have, it’s possible that we can go to the World Cup.”
