Former Nigerian international, Mutiu Adepoju, has applauded the Super Eagles following their emphatic 4–1 victory over Gabon in Thursday’s 2026 World Cup qualifying playoff clash.
Nigeria were held 1–1 at full time, pushing the encounter into extra minutes, where quick-fire goals from Chidera Ejuke and Victor Osimhen swung the momentum firmly in the Eagles’ favour.
Speaking as a guest analyst on Sporty TV’s live coverage of the playoffs, Adepoju expressed satisfaction with how the team responded when the game became tense.
“It was a good performance for the Super Eagles in the extra time. Nigeria dominated the first half, while the Gabonese came out stronger in the second half, and they scored the equalizing goal to take the game to extra time.
“But it was surprising for me that the players got fired up, and they got three more goals, making it four goals. It was a very good performance, and the reactions from the players were very good as well.”
Adepoju noted that the turnaround in extra time underlined the team’s character and determination to advance in the qualifiers.
