WCQ: Lookman, Semi Ajayi join S’Eagles camp in Morocco ahead playoffs

Nigerian internationals, Ademola Lookman and Semi Ajayi have arrived at the Super Eagles camp as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoffs.

Their arrival was confirmed by the team’s media officer, Promise Efoghe.

With the duo’s inclusion, the number of players currently in camp rises to 14, while seven more are expected to join later today (Monday).

The Eagles are seeking redemption after narrowly missing out on automatic qualification from Group C, now turning their attention to the playoffs as a route to next year’s World Cup.

Nigeria will face Gabon in the first leg of the playoffs, with victory ensuring a showdown against either Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The winner of that encounter will secure a spot in the Intercontinental playoffs in Mexico scheduled for March.

Historically, the Super Eagles have had success against Gabon in World Cup qualifiers. During the 2006 Germany World Cup qualifiers, the teams played to a 1-1 draw in Libreville, before Nigeria claimed a 2-0 victory in the return leg in Port Harcourt.

Overall, the Super Eagles have accumulated five wins, three draws, and suffered just one loss against Gabon.
