Heavyweight boxing champion, Oleksandr Usyk, has expressed deep sympathy for former rival Anthony Joshua following a tragic road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Joshua was reportedly involved in the crash on Monday, which claimed the lives of two members of his entourage after their vehicle rammed into a stationary truck along the highway.
The British boxer, who recently visited Nigeria, is said to have sustained injuries in the incident.
Taking to his verified Instagram page, Usyk sent an emotional message of support to Joshua while mourning the loss of the two victims.
“This is an unbelievable loss. [Sina and Latz] were two incredible people who were not only part of AJ’s team, but also friends!
“My sincere condolences to their families, loved ones, and everyone who knew them. Anthony Joshua – wishing you a speedy recovery. Stay strong, champion.”
Usyk and Joshua have faced each other twice in the ring, but the Ukrainian boxer’s message reflected solidarity beyond rivalry, as he stood with Joshua during the difficult moment.
