The United States Tennis Association organisers of the US Open, has unveiled a historic prize purse for the 2025 tournament, a staggering $90 million, marking the largest in tennis history.

For the first time in the event’s history, champions in the men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles categories will each pocket $1 million, underscoring the tournament’s commitment to rewarding excellence across all formats.

Boost for Players Following Calls for Change
This significant increase follows reports that some of the world’s leading players had jointly written to the organisers of all four Grand Slam events, the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open, urging a “substantial increase” in payouts.

In a statement on its official website, the US Open confirmed it had implemented “double-digit percentage increases from 2024 in all rounds of all events for all players,” while also boosting the share for those progressing deep into the singles competition.

20% Jump from Last Year
The new total reflects a 20% rise from the $75 million offered in 2024. The package also allocates $5 million to cover player support costs such as travel and other expenses for those in the main draw.

The record-breaking purse signals a major win for player advocacy, ensuring athletes share more equitably in the sport’s growing revenues while setting a new benchmark for tennis prize money.
