Jamaica head coach, Rudolph Speid, has admitted his side will be in for a tough challenge when they meet Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the final of the 2026 Unity Cup in London on Saturday night.
The Reggae Boyz will lock horns with the Nigeria Super Eagles at The Valley in London, in a repeat of last year’s final, where Nigeria triumphed 5-4 on penalties after a dramatic 2-2 draw in normal time.
This year’s final also carries added weight as both teams return with renewed ambition, with Jamaica eyeing revenge and Nigeria aiming to defend their dominance under head coach Éric Chelle.
Speid acknowledged the quality of the opposition but expressed belief in his team’s chances ahead of the showdown.
“It’s always exciting to play against Nigeria; they play exciting football. They’re one of the powerhouses in Africa, so it’s always good. We always look forward to playing them,” Speid said ahead of the game.
Reflecting on last year’s meeting, he added confidence that Jamaica could produce a different outcome this time.
“Last year was very exciting, this year, I hope we’ll have better results against them.
“We saw them play [on Tuesday] so we’ll do some more analysis on what they will be doing and then we will decide if we need to change anything.”
Jamaica booked their place in the final after a 2-0 win over India, while Nigeria advanced with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe in their semi-final clash.
