The University of Lagos has dismissed circulating reports alleging delays in the reimbursement of NELFund loans to students who had paid their obligatory fees before the university received the loan disbursements.

In an official statement released on Thursday, the university’s Head of Communication Unit, Mrs. Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, clarified that the reimbursement process is ongoing and follows due verification and reconciliation with the Nigeria Education Loan Fund.

“Refunds are typically processed after reconciliation and verification with NELFund,” she stated. “So far, three tranches of the NELFund loans have been received by the university, and beneficiaries from the first two batches have already been reimbursed.”

She added that the university was currently processing refunds for the third tranche, which arrived at the end of April.

“We are currently collating and reconciling students’ payment details for the third batch,” Alaga-Ibraheem said, assuring students of the institution’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

She further encouraged students to engage with the NELFund help desk situated at the Student Affairs Division for prompt resolution of any complaints.

“The university management remains committed to its core values of transparency, accountability, and student-centred service delivery,” she added. “We implore our students to take advantage of the NELFund loan facility.”

The university’s clarification comes in response to concerns raised by some students over alleged delays in refunds.
