UCL: Osimhen admits Galatasaray fell short against Juventus

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, admitted Galatasaray fell short of their standards despite booking a place in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 after a tense showdown with Juventus in Turin on Wednesday night.

The Turkish champions went into the second leg holding a comfortable 5–2 cushion from the first meeting, but the tie took an unexpected twist as the Italian side surged back to claim a 3–2 win after regulation time, dragging the contest into extra time.

Osimhen ultimately proved decisive, striking in extra time to seal a 7–5 aggregate triumph and end Juventus’ comeback hopes.

His goal ensured Galatasaray’s progression, but the Nigerian forward made it clear he was far from satisfied with how his team handled the occasion.

“This match was obviously disappointing from the start. Our opponent pushed us really hard. I’m happy with my goal and what I did… but I think we have a lot to work on,” Osimhen said.

The 25-year-old’s remarks underlined his frustration, particularly as Galatasaray allowed a 10-man Juventus side to stretch the contest beyond 90 minutes.

He hinted that some players struggled to cope with the pressure and intensity imposed by their opponents.

While Galatasaray celebrated qualification, Juventus earned plaudits for their spirited display in front of their home supporters.

Attention now shifts to the round of 16 draw, with Osimhen urging his teammates to raise their level if they are to compete with Europe’s elite in the next phase.
