The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended two prime suspects linked to the brutal killing and burning of a young woman in the ‘Gangare’ area near Mile 12 Market on May 24, 2025.

Police Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrests in a Monday statement, clarifying that the attack stemmed from a failed relationship rather than blasphemy allegations as previously speculated.

Hundeyin revealed the victim, a Nasarawa State indigene living with relatives in Lagos, was targeted by her estranged boyfriend and accomplices. “Facts from preliminary investigations clearly revealed that she is from Nasarawa State and not a Yoruba woman,” he stated.

“The protracted problem between her and her boyfriend, now at large, who tried to forcefully rekindle their relationship, led to the conspiracy. The boyfriend, along with other suspects, two of whom are now in custody, planned and executed the attack,” Hundeyin explained.

The arrested suspects are currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department where they’re assisting detectives in tracking down other perpetrators, including the fleeing boyfriend.

Hundeyin assured residents that normalcy has returned to the Mile 12 area, urging calm: “Lagos residents are encouraged not to panic. They should go about their lawful activities peacefully without apprehension. While awaiting the outcome of the investigation which will certainly be made public.”

The police spokesperson cautioned against spreading unverified information, stating: “People are implored to exercise restraint and refrain from spreading unverified information that may cause unnecessary fear.”
