Tunisia fire coach Trabelsi after AFCON exit

Tunisia have parted ways with head coach, Sami Trabelsi, following the team’s exit in the round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Tunisian Football Federation confirmed the decision, stating that it had “decided to terminate the contractual relationship by mutual consent with the entire technical staff of the senior national team.”

“The Executive Committee has decided to end the contractual relationship by mutual consent with the entire technical staff of the national team,” the FTF said in a statement on Sunday.

The move comes after Tunisia were eliminated by Mali in a penalty shootout, losing 3-2 after the match had ended 1-1 in extra time. Notably, Mali had played with 10 men.

Trabelsi, 57, was relieved of his duties just hours after the conclusion of the match.

He had taken charge in February 2025 and recently led Tunisia to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
