Trump targets Cuba after Iran conflict ends

United States President, Donald Trump, hinted on Thursday that once the conflict with Iran is over, his administration will shift attention to an unspecified initiative involving Cuba, the Caribbean nation already grappling with a U.S. energy blockade.

Speaking at a reception in the White House, Trump said, “We want to fix, finish this one first, but that will be just a question of time before you and a lot of unbelievable people are going to be going back to Cuba.”

Turning to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the Miami‑born son of Cuban immigrants, Trump added, “You’ve been doing a fantastic job on a place called Cuba.”

Washington’s energy blockade on the communist‑ruled island has plunged Cuba into deeper economic strain.

The move follows the U.S. capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, previously the country’s main oil supplier and has left Cuba without imported oil since January 9, prompting flight cutbacks and sharpening a long‑standing crisis.

Across the island, many fear Cuba could soon be targeted by the next phase of U.S. foreign policy, particularly after military operations by the United States and Israel against Iran that resulted in the death of that nation’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Both Trump and Rubio have been clear about their goal of bringing about regime change in Havana.
