A tragic road accident in Ikirun, Osun State, on Tuesday claimed the life of one person and left three others injured.

The incident occurred near Oja Oba market along the busy Ikirun–Iree–Ila Road when a truck transporting granite reportedly suffered brake failure.

According to the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, the truck hit a motorcycle before veering off the road and crashing into a nearby shop.

“The driver lost control due to brake failure. Sadly, one man, identified as Usman Mohammed, who was standing by the roadside, died on the spot,” Ojelabi said.

“Three other victims sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment in hospital.”

The police spokesperson advised motorists to exercise extra caution while on the road, stressing that safety awareness can prevent avoidable tragedies.

“We urge road users to be security conscious at all times. The command remains committed to ensuring the protection of lives and property in the state,” he added.
