The Independent National Electoral Commission has issued a stern warning to Nigerians ahead of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise, cautioning against engaging in multiple registrations.
Resident Electoral Commissioner for Plateau State, Alhaji Mohammed Sadiq, gave the warning during a stakeholders’ meeting on the nationwide resumption of CVR.
“Voter registration is not only a fundamental right, but also a duty of every eligible citizen of Nigeria,” Sadiq said.
“No individual can vote in an election unless they are duly registered. The commission will not accept multiple registration, and any attempt to engage in such an act may result in the person being completely delisted from the voter register.”
Sadiq urged Nigerians who have attained the age of 18 and are yet to register to take advantage of the opportunity to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards.
According to him, the CVR will begin on August 18 with online registration. He explained that the process is meant for new voters, those seeking to collect or transfer their PVCs, and individuals who need replacements for lost or damaged cards.
“The online registration can take place anywhere and at any time. The website to visit is http://www.cvr.inecnigeria.org,” he stated.
The REC assured that INEC had put measures in place to prevent non-Nigerians from participating in the exercise and called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, political parties, and other stakeholders to mobilise eligible residents to register.
“We want all Nigerians to play their part in strengthening our democracy by ensuring they are properly registered to vote,” Sadiq added.
