Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have discovered a large cache of Improvised Explosive Devices hidden beneath a strategic bridge connecting Marte and Dikwa in Borno State.

The Nigerian Army disclosed the development on Friday through an official statement released on its verified Facebook page.

According to the statement, the explosives were planted by suspected members of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province.

The operation, which was carried out by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal units from Forward Operating Bases in Marte and Dikwa, led to the safe recovery of 56 fully assembled IEDs.

Additional devices were also found at the site, with controlled procedures currently ongoing to safely neutralize and remove them.

“This successful clearance operation is a major breakthrough in averting what could have been a devastating attack on civilians and military personnel,” the statement read.

“The dedication and expertise of our troops once again underscore the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding critical infrastructure and ensuring the safety of Nigerians.”

Military sources say the explosives were discovered during a targeted operation conducted in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force.

A senior Army officer involved in the operation, who spoke on condition of anonymity, noted:

“This was a well-calculated attempt by terrorists to destroy key infrastructure and disrupt movement in the area. Our prompt action has once again foiled their plan.”
