Troops nab fake soldiers, kills three suspected terrorists in Plateau

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, have intensified security operations in Plateau State, killing three suspected terrorists and apprehending two individuals allegedly posing as security personnel.

The breakthrough came during a late-night operation on Thursday in Dutse Uku, located in Jos North Local Government Area, after troops responded to reports of sporadic gunfire in the area.

According to a statement issued on Friday in Jos by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer of Operation Enduring Peace, soldiers arrested the two suspects while they were dressed in black tactical uniforms.

The statement alleged that the suspects were involved in setting houses on fire and inciting violence within the community. They are currently being held in military custody.

“Two persons who sustained gunshot wounds during the incident were evacuated to a medical facility, where they are in stable condition.”

Military authorities said the arrests disprove allegations that soldiers were involved in the recent unrest in Jos North.

The statement maintained that some criminal elements have been disguising themselves in military-style clothing to commit crimes and damage the reputation of the Armed Forces.

In a separate operation in Karem, Wase Local Government Area, troops reportedly intercepted a large group of terrorists moving on motorcycles.

The suspects were said to have fled after exchanging gunfire with soldiers, leaving behind three of their members who were neutralised during the encounter.

The operation followed the deployment of a battalion and specialised counter-terrorism troops to Plateau State by the Chief of Army Staff on Thursday morning.

Military authorities described the latest deployment as a major boost to security efforts in the state, saying it has improved control in volatile communities.

The troops also vowed to intensify efforts against criminal gangs, insurgents and other hoodlums threatening peace in Plateau.

“Troops of Operation Enduring Peace remain resolute in their mission to eliminate all threats to public peace,” the statement added.

Security agencies further urged residents to stay alert and promptly report suspicious individuals or activities in their communities.
