Troops free two abducted immigration officers in Benue

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke have rescued two personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Service who were abducted in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

The Acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday in Makurdi.

According to him, the officers — identified as David Iorwuese and Oliver Orasuur — were rescued on Friday during a coordinated operation based on credible intelligence.

“The search and rescue mission was conducted in Tse Tembe and Adamawa Village, both in Azendeshi Council Ward, Ukum LGA. The kidnappers fled the area on sighting the troops, leaving behind the captives who were safely recovered,” Zubairu stated.

He added that the freed officers were in stable condition and had been placed under medical observation while also undergoing debriefing.

The Force Commander of OPWS, Major General Moses Gara, applauded the gallantry of the troops and their quick response to the distress call.

“This operation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property. We will continue to act swiftly against criminal elements threatening the peace of Benue and neighbouring states,” Gara said.

He further appealed to residents to sustain cooperation with security agencies by giving timely and accurate information. “Community collaboration is key in defeating banditry and ensuring farmers return safely to their fields to boost food security,” he stressed.
