Troops of 17 Brigade, operating under Operation Fasan Yamma at Forward Operating Base Kurfi in Katsina State, on Wednesday eliminated eight terrorists during an encounter along the Kurfi-Batsari Road.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja. He stated that the troops swiftly engaged the terrorists in a prolonged gun battle, successfully thwarting their plans.

Kangye reported that the terrorists suffered significant casualties, with troops recovering five AK-47 rifles, six AK-47 magazines, and 13 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition from the scene.

“One soldier was wounded in action and has been evacuated to the 17 Brigade Medical Centre for treatment,” Kangye added.

He assured that the situation in the area remains calm, with troops maintaining high morale and operational readiness.

“The Defence Headquarters commends the bravery and professionalism of the troops involved in the operation. We reassure Nigerians of our continued efforts to ensure the safety and security of our citizens,” Kangye stated.
