An 18-year-old Miami teenager, Jahara Malik, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison after pleading guilty to the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend during an argument in 2024.
Malik was convicted for the killing of 17-year-old Yahkeim Lollar, who died after being stabbed during a confrontation on December 20, 2024, near Northwest 6th Court and 61st Street in Miami.
The defendant, who was 17 at the time of the incident, was prosecuted as an adult and pleaded guilty in March without entering into a plea agreement, leaving the final sentencing decision to the judge.
During the sentencing hearing, the judge acknowledged Malik’s remorse but stated that evidence presented in court suggested the violence was not an isolated incident.
“Although I believe you are remorseful, I do not believe this was an isolated act of aggression toward the victim,” the judge said while delivering the sentence.
Members of Lollar’s family expressed grief and anger in court, insisting that justice be served for the slain teenager.
“You are a murderer. You are a demon seed brought into this world to cause suffering,” a relative of the victim said during the emotional hearing.
Lollar’s mother, Nathalie Jean, had earlier urged the court to impose the maximum sentence of 30 years.
“She took my son’s life for no reason,” Jean said. “He was honest with her that he no longer wanted the relationship, and that decision cost him his life.”
The victim’s family had staged protests outside the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office in the weeks following the incident, demanding authorities file charges against Malik.
Prosecutors eventually charged her more than a month after the stabbing.
Lollar, fondly known as “Keimo” by friends and family, was a junior at Miami Northwestern Senior High School.
Relatives described him as a dedicated son who loved football, video games, and aspired to pursue a career in finance.
He died after suffering stab wounds in the garage area of the apartment complex where the incident occurred.
