TCN plans Niger substation maintenance, warns of power outage

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced that it will conduct maintenance on major equipment at its Zungeru Transmission Substation in Niger State on February 18 and 19, 2026.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the company’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the work will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and will focus on critical components at the facility.
According to her, the team will work on “the 150MVA 330/132/33kV transformer, the 5.5MVA 33/11kV transformer, and all related switchgear equipment.”

Mbah explained that the maintenance will not completely cut off supply to distribution companies connected to the substation.

She noted that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company and the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company will “still be able to serve customers taking supply from the transformer scheduled for work, as the load will be moved to the second 150MVA transformer within the substation.”

However, she confirmed that some communities will feel the impact of the operation.

“Kontagora, Tegina, Yauri, and surrounding areas will experience a short power interruption during the load transfer,” Mbah stated, referencing the affected communities including Kontagora, Tegina, and Yauri.

She added that the planned exercise is part of ongoing efforts to keep the transmission network in good condition.

“This scheduled maintenance is necessary to ensure that our equipment continues to operate efficiently,” she said.
