Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has announced her plan to return to the National Assembly on Tuesday, July 22, in line with a recent court pronouncement.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday during a training workshop in her constituency, Akpoti-Uduaghan said the legal development supports her return to the red chamber, where she has been unable to discharge her duties due to the suspension.

She emphasized that she has communicated her intention to resume in a formal letter to the Senate leadership.

“I have written to the Senate again, telling them that I’m resuming on the 22nd, which is on Tuesday. I will be there because the court did make a decision on that. They argue that it is not an order, but it is a decision, and if you look at Section 318 of the Nigerian Constitution, it did mention that a recommendation forms part of the decision of the court,” she said.

While acknowledging that her six-month suspension is nearing its end, the senator maintained that the court’s stance justifies her early return.

“I have pretty much two months more before the six months expire. However, I have written to the Senate again telling them that I’m resuming on the 22nd, which is on Tuesday, by the special grace of God.

“I will be there, because the court did make the decision on that,” she added.

Akpoti-Uduaghan has been a key figure in recent political tensions, and her return to the Senate is expected to stir reactions both within and outside the chamber.
