Super Lig: Onuachu scores as Trabzonspor edge Galatasaray 2-1

Super Eagles forward, Paul Onuachu, helped Trabzonspor secure a 2-1 home victory over Galatasaray, scoring the opening goal in the fourth minute with a glancing header from Wagner Pina’s cross.

After halftime, Wilfried Stephane Singo equalised for the visitors (1-1) in the 48th minute, but Chibuike Nwaiwu’s towering header from Anthony Nwakaeme’s set piece in the 62nd minute restored Trabzonspor’s lead and sealed the 2-1 win.

André Onana played a pivotal role in preserving the advantage, making crucial stops, including a smart save to deny Mario Lemina before the break, as Galatasaray pressed with crosses and shots.

Okan Buruk’s halftime double change, bringing on İlkay Gündoğan and Eren Elmali, injected life into Galatasaray’s attack, with Barış Yılmaz providing the assist for Singo’s equaliser.

Despite dominating possession (63.8%) and generating 19 attempts with 10 corners, the visitors struggled to convert pressure into goals.

Trabzonspor, with just 36.2% possession, were efficient in attack, registering 13 attempts and defending their box stoutly.

The win lifts them from third to second in the Süper Lig and marks their first league triumph over Galatasaray since January 2022.

Onuachu’s goal also keeps him atop the Süper Lig scoring chart with 22 goals this season. Next, Trabzonspor travel to Alanyaspor, while Galatasaray visit Göztepe.
