Super Eagles forward, Paul Onuachu, continued his remarkable scoring streak, netting for the seventh consecutive match, while teammate Chibuike Nwaiwu grabbed a brace as Trabzonspor cruised to a 3-1 victory over Karagümrük on Friday.
The win narrows the gap to Super Lig leaders Galatasaray to just four points.
Trabzonspor, coming off an impressive run with only one loss in their previous nine matches, maintained their momentum, with both Nigerian internationals playing pivotal roles in securing the club’s 15th league triumph of the season.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 20th minute through Onuachu, who rose above the defense to head in a superb delivery from Ozan Tufan.
Karagümrük responded swiftly, with Daniele Verde equalizing just eight minutes later to make it 1-1.
Early in the second half, Nwaiwu restored Trabzonspor’s advantage with a stunning flying header, marking his first goal for the club to put the score at 2-1.
Just three minutes later, Onuachu set up Nwaiwu once more, allowing the defender to score again and seal a 3-1 win.
The result keeps Trabzonspor in the title hunt. They sit third with 51 points, now just four shy of leaders Galatasaray, who have a game in hand.
With the league triumph secured, Trabzonspor will shift focus to the Turkish Cup, taking on Basaksehir on Tuesday.
Karagümrük, struggling at the bottom of the table, will also look to bounce back in the cup against Fethiyespor.
