Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, scored before being forced off with an injury as Galatasaray defeated Istanbul Basaksehir 3-2 in a thrilling Turkish Super Lig encounter on Friday.
Osimhen put the Turkish champions ahead in the 16th minute, capping a well-worked attacking move to register his fifth goal of the season.
However, his evening was cut short after he picked up an injury just 17 minutes after scoring. The Nigerian forward was subsequently replaced by Barış Alper Yılmaz.
Basaksehir grew into the contest after the interval and were rewarded in the 66th minute when Eldor Shomurodov converted a penalty to bring the hosts level.
Galatasaray quickly restored their advantage five minutes later, with Lucas Torreira finishing off a well-executed team move to make it 2-1.
The visitors were pegged back once again when Davinson Sánchez inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, setting up a tense finale.
With the match appearing destined to end in a draw, Gabriel Sara delivered the decisive moment in the 90th minute, curling a superb free-kick into the net to secure all three points for Galatasaray.
The victory maintained Galatasaray’s strong start to the campaign, although the club and Nigerian supporters will now be hoping Osimhen’s injury is not serious.
