Super Falcons’ Ajibade named WAFCON Player of the Tournament

Super Falcons forward, Rasheedat Ajibade, was named Player of the Tournament as Nigeria staged a remarkable comeback to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which concluded on Saturday night.

Morocco’s Ghizlaine Chebbak claimed the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer, while fans now turn their attention to how other key players, such as Barbra Banda and Asisat Oshoala, performed in front of goal.

The Falcons found themselves trailing by two goals at halftime, courtesy of strikes from Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy.

However, they responded in spectacular fashion after the break.

Esther Okoronkwo led the charge, first converting a penalty before assisting Folashade Ijamilusi to draw Nigeria level.

The decisive moment came late on, when Jennifer Echegini pounced on a free-kick to fire in the winner.
